Oh No!

The Cubs were playing the Brewers on September 23, 1998. They were battling for the wildcard spot in the National League at the time so every game was critical. The Cubbies had, at one point in this game, a 7-0 lead thanks to two Sammy Sosa dingers. Remember that this was also during the big steroids induced home run race between him and Mark McGwire.

The late Rod Beck had one out left to get in the ninth inning when Geoff Jenkins came to bat. The Cubs were leading 7-5 at the time. Jenkins hit a ball deep to left field which should have ended the game but Brant Brown dropped the ball. It was at this point when the ultimate homer, Ron Santo, screamed out, "Oh no!" The three base runners crossed the plate and the Cubs lost. The radio call that day would live on forever.

All was not lost however. The Cubs did end up tying for the wildcard spot that season, winning the tie breaking game before being trounced by the Braves in three straight games.
